Vuyisa ‘Vu’ Qabaka

A big man with an even bigger personality, Vuyisa is a force of nature in Cape Town. I met Vuyisa through my emceeing duties at PechaKucha Cape Town and we became friends through various interconnecting social and business circles.  “Vu” as he’s known, is the epicentre of much entrepreneurial and early-stage social enterprise development in the city.  Highly connected and even more outspoken, Vu has stories within stories about people he knows who know people.  With the warmth of Santa Claus, the smarts of FDR, and the community mindedness of MLK, Vu is a ‘mover and shaker’ in a city that needs a disruptor of his calibre to challenge the long-held views and embedded structures that persist in this European enclave at the southern tip of Africa. Politics and economics mix with social commentary and jokes while conversing with Vu, as he offers a smile that is sincere and never ceasing.  Amid South Africa’s pain and the societal scars that are still apparent in the country, he always emits joy and friendliness as the consummate Ambassador for Cape Town, and positive proponent of its future development.
