Paul Tomes
Paul is a friend who - unbeknownst to him - acted as a mentor to me. We met through Sanlam, a mutual client on a number of occasions. When I ran my own consultancy in Cape Town, Paul was a regular collaborator, introducing me to the world of podcasting. We co-produced a few podcasts together, using Paul’s homemade studio to record and edit much of the material. It was always fascinating (and great learning) to experience Paul’s salesmanship and smarts in action. Either on his own or with his wonderful wife Marie-Claire, Paul set up several successful businesses, most notably Pitch. A master storyteller and presentation guru, Paul has taught me much from his example as an entrepreneur, father, husband and business partner. If I can be Paul when I grow up, I’d consider myself to be exceptionally successful. Funny, witty and with a wicked sense of humour, Paul is an exemplar of an Irishman who’s ‘done good’ in penetrating South African society.
