Dave Cotton
I call this friend “Crazy Dave” and few would disagree. He is a fearless networker, an extraordinary sportsman, and a design professional who is, at the least, eccentric. I first met Dave through PechaKucha Night Cape Town, an event that he ran for many years before handing the reins over to me. I was drawn to the magic of these events and also to Dave’s vivaciousness. At least a half century young, Dave is an avid cyclist, regularly heading up Table Mountain on his bike. He is also a scooter enthusiast, or to be more accurate, a fan of Vespas. This has extended into a unique membership in the rather dubious group known as the Vesperados. Dave’s skills on two wheels have also been demonstrated through such feats as being the (unofficial) winner of the Death Race - an illegal event - that starts at the top of Kloof Nek in Cape Town and ends in the City Bowl. (Here’s some impressive video of a skateboarder doing the route and setting off a speed camera for going 100km/h.) In recent years, however, Dave has become a devotee of Taoism, a way of life that helps him focus on the things that matter most. I always appreciate Dave’s massive hugs.
